Long Island man arrested in 2013 crash that killed 2

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (AP) — A Long Island man has been arrested in the deaths of his companion and their 4-year-old son in a 2013 car crash.

29-year-old Renen Vides, of Hempstead, was arrested Friday after police in Garden City saw him driving with no front license plates.

The Nassau County district attorney's office says authorities then discovered a pending arrest warrant related to the crash.

It is unclear why Vides was charged in the deaths. There was no indication at the time of the Sept. 29, 2013 crash that the case was considered criminal.

Vides' companion, Martha Hernandez-Majano, 27, and their son, Renen Vides Jr., were killed in the crash.

Vides is due in court Monday. It's unclear if he has a lawyer who could speak on his behalf.
