LIRR train hits truck in Bethpage

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - Service on the Ronkonkoma Branch between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma was suspended in both directions for a few hours on Wednesday afternoon after a train hit a tractor-trailer at the Merrits Road crossing.

There no injuries according to a railroad spokeswoman.

A rescue train was sent to transfer customers off the incident train and LIRR personnel were on scene assessing the situation.

Officials have not said what caused the accident.  Residual delays continued into the evening on the line due to the incident.
