LIRR train hits empty car

Authorities say a Long Island Rail Road train has struck an empty car that got stuck on the tracks in Wyandanch. (FOX 5 NY)

A  Long Island Rail Road train struck an empty car that got stuck on the tracks Thursday in Wyandanch, according to LIRR officials.

Suffolk County police say the driver ran from the car as the train approached at about 6:30 a.m.  He was not hurt.

Long Island Avenue was closed in both directions between Wellwood Avenue and Little East Neck Road.

Service on the Ronkonkoma line also was affected.
