NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - The NYPD blocked off an area of Midtown Manhattan on Friday morning after a 911 call reporting a suspicious safe on the sidewalk.
It happened at 5th Ave. and E. 47th Street. The approximately 4-foot tall safe was apparently abandoned on the sidewalk.
The Emergency Service Unit of the NYPD was called to try to open it.
Video posted to Citizen App showed crime scene tape blocking off the corner as police investigated. A crowd of curious people gathered to watch the scene unfold.
It was unclear how long the safe was on the sidewalk. It was unknown if there was anything inside the locked safe.
