Jersey City throws ailing boy a parade to school

For fourth grader Parth Patel, school is an escape. Despite everything he battles his wish each day is to be there, even if only for an hour.

Parth, 9, is in home hospice, battling childhood cancer. Through the Marty Lyons Foundation, Parth was surprised at his home with his own parade to his favorite place: school.

Dressed in a custom Jersey City police uniform, Parth was greeted by community members, officers, and his favorite superhero: batman.

Parth hit the road in the Batmobile. The Jersey City streets were lined with supporters, mascots, and his teachers and classmates.

The emotion felt in the community was overwhelming. The love for Parth was indescribable.

Despite all the heroes at the celebration, Parth is the biggest superhero of all.

You can see how much that little boy has impacted the community.

One of the Jersey City police officers learned of his story and was committed to giving him a special day. It seemed like everyone was there. As his sister said: what a memory for all to share.
