In Your Neighborhood: Forest Hills, Queens
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - If you've never been to Forest Hills, you're missing out on one of Queens' most desirable neighborhoods. Smack dab in the middle of the borough, it is just 20 minutes by train from Manhattan but in many ways worlds away.
Queens Boulevard is the main thoroughfare and pretty much divides Forest Hills in half. It's lined by parks, businesses and apartment buildings. Residents say it's a fantastic place to live.
The southern side of Forest Hills is the most iconic. It is home to Austin Street, a busy boulevard with quaint shops and the tennis stadium that used to be the site of the U.S. Open.
Forest Hills Gardens is the neighborhood crown jewel. Its private streets are lined with giant old Tudor-style homes. This area was modeled after the community gardens of England. It's also a great place to work.
When it comes to food you've got lots of options. I decided to try Mediterranean grill Pahal Zan, voted best falafel in New York by the Daily News.
Some of Forest Hills' famous residents include designer Donna Karan, musician Art Garfunkel and actor Ray Romano.
