NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Chordale Booker makes it look easy inside the ring. But for the 2015 National Champion, the path to becoming one of the world's top young boxers wasn't so simple.
As a juvenile in 2009, he was arrested on weapons and drug charges, but an overwhelming number of character references saved him from heading to jail.
That second chance was all he needed. Booker went straight to the gym and ultimately, found his purpose.
He says he matured a lot in the gym. It shows .The list of accolades from his amateur career is impressive...the golden glove winner was just one point away from making the Olympic Team. But the losses have never faltered his confidence...because for Booker, the journey is about so much more than just boxing.
His goal is to be a world champion and also a mentor to younger people. And so far, the 25-year-old is doing that and more.
We've seen the hard work firsthand. Now, Booker will have a chance to prove his dominance and continue his unbeaten streak as a professional, when he fights Sunday in Coney Island.
