Huge 'Shut Down Trump' protest planned in NYC
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A coalition of activist groups say tens of thousands of people will march on the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Midtown Manhattan on Thursday where Donald Trump is scheduled to speak at a Republican fundraiser.
The action is planned for 5:30 p.m. which could snarl rush hour traffic in Manhattan. The hotel is also right next to Grand Central Terminal, a major train hub for Manhattan commuters.
Going under the name Shut Down Trump NYC Coalitions, the group says they have been training participants on civil disobedience and other tactics.
Marchers will start in various spots across the city and converge outside the event.
Along with the Black Lives Matter and Fight-for-$15 groups, the Pakistan-USA Freedom Forum, Queer Detainee Empowerment Project, and Workers World Party are among the groups.
The 2016 NYS GOP Annual Gala features New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and all three Republican candidates for President, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, Governor John Kasich and Donald Trump.
A dinner starts at 7:30 and the program will commence around 7:45 pm. Governor Martinez and all three candidates for president will deliver remarks.
