Ground Zero FDNY hero dies of cancer

14 years after he spent five months working at Ground Zero, beloved FDNY hero, Joseph O’Toole died of 9/11 related cancer.

Known to many as “Toolie,” Joseph O’Toole passed away after his battle with cancer at his Rockland home, as reported by the Daily News.

He was served at the FDNY 41 Truck for 19 years and started is first tour at Ground Zero January 2002.

The hero and his fellow colleagues spent five months digging through the rubble and looking for remains across the toxic property damaged by the 9/11 attacks.

O’Toole leaves behind his wife, three children, and five grandchildren.
