Girl critically injured in mechanical bed

A 6-year-old New Jersey girl is in critical condition after a bizarre incident that left her trapped in a mechanical bed in her parent's bedroom.

It happened Thursday evening in Egg Harbor Township.  Police say they were called to a home on Wedgewood Drive at about 8:21 p.m.

They found the girl trapped in between the mechanical bed base. It was putting pressure on her chest and affected her breathing. The girl lost consciousness and her father was able to pry the base open just enough for her to breathe again.

Officers Benjamin Kollman and Louis Poletis were able to disassemble the base, using the tools from their duty belt and remove the child.

The child was treated at the scene by the Egg Harbor Township Ambulance Squad and AtlantiCare Paramedics.

She was flown by Medivac 4 to Cooper Hospital, in Camden, in critical condition.
