The FBI gang task force has found apparent human remains in a Long Island park nearly a week after the body of a 16-year-old boy was found in a neighboring community, officials said.
FBI spokeswoman Amy Thoreson said the suspected remains were found Wednesday morning in Cow Meadow Park and Preserve in Freeport.
Authorities have not commented on whether the cases are link to each other or if either is linked to the MS-13 street gang, which is blamed for 22 killings on Long Island since January 2016. In one string of brutal violence, four teens from the same school were killed within a month of each other.
On Oct. 19, investigators acting on a tip from federal Homeland Security Investigations discovered the body of Angel Soler, 16, in woodlands in Roosevelt. He had been reported missing in July.
