Flying tire kills man in car

A tire that flew off a truck landed on a car, killing the driver, on a Long Island highway.

A truck traveling eastbound lost a tire, which then flew into the westbound lanes and hit a Saturn sedan on Sunrise Highway in West Babylon around 2:15 p.m. Thursday, the state Department of Transportation said.

The driver of the Saturn, David Dorazio, 60, of Lindenhurst, crashed into the center median and died, authorities said.

The same tire also struck a Chevrolet SUV. Two people in that vehicle were not hurt, police said.

Suffolk County Police First Squad detectives are looking to track down the truck that lost the tire. If you have any information, you can call the detectives 631-854-8152.
