FDNY firefighter mourned; fund opened for daughter
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - Firefighters with Ladder 135 and Engine 286 are dealing with the loss of their brother firefighter William Tolley. The community in Ridgewood, Queens, is heartbroken, as well. Dozens of people brought flowers and candles to the firehouse to pay their respects.
Bunting hangs at the entrance of William Tolley's firehouse in Ridgewood. The bunting is a symbol of a firehouse in mourning. Flowers, support, and love continued to stream in for the senior firefighter who gave the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
Firefighter Tolley, who was known as Billy, was a married father with an 8-year-old daughter named Isabella. Billy was also a volunteer fireman in Bethpage, Long Island, where he lived.
He died in a five-story fall Thursday at the scene of a fire in the neighborhood.
The FDNY Foundation has set up an educational fund for Isabella.
