Fan insults autistic boy at Yankee Stadium
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - A baseball game should be a fun, family-friendly activity. So when an incident happened at Yankee stadium on Tuesday, the DiMarco family was outraged and appalled.
A fan sitting in front of the DiMarco family called their 4-year-old son Luciano an incredibly offensive insult. The young boy is autistic, and his parents believe he kicked the seat of the man in front of him, which is why that fan became outraged. We Skyped with Luciano's father, Danny DiMarco.
"I was in shock and in pain to hear it. You don't expect for anybody to talk to a kid that way, especially with the parents right there," said DiMarco.
Danny tells Fox 5 he and his wife tried to get help from Yankee Stadium security to move their seats or to have the offensive man removed from the stadium, but they said nothing was done.
A spokesperson for the team tells Fox 5 in a statement:
"We are aware of the incident and are currently conducting an investigation. The New York Yankees have absolutely no tolerance for that type of abhorrent fan behavior. We have also spoken directly and at length to the family affected, and hope to have all of them back to Yankee Stadium as our personal guests."
