NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) - All parks are not created equal. Neither are the leaders of hip hop. The best of the best converged at West 179th Street and Cedar Avenue in the Bronx Tuesday. Legends DJ Kool Herc, Coke La Rock and Grandmaster Caz celebrated the rebirth of their old stomping grounds: Cedar Playground.
The celebration of sorts was the culmination of a new $2.4 million investment in the playground. The ribbon cutting was a nod to the park's facelift and add-ons. In recent years, the space had fallen on tough times. Now youngsters take their game to the new courts. They'll also enjoy new play equipment and other toys.
The project was funded by money allocated from the Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and the City Council. The city pulled out all the stops. Improvements include new lighting, workout equipment, and retaining walls.
If you remember what this park was back in the day, you're not a kid anymore.
