Designs unveiled for new Port Authority Bus Terminal

Port Authority Bus Terminal is getting a makeover. According to Associated Press, New Jersey and New York officials reached an agreement on the need for a new bus terminal on the West Side of Manhattan.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced a deal to replace the current 66-year-old Port Authority Bus Terminal this week. New Jersey and New York officials have gone back and forth with the new layout for the bus terminal. NJ officials have pressed on building the new terminal on Manhattan’s west side to make traveling easier. NY officials, on the other hand, noted their interest in moving the terminal into New Jersey.

As for the new design, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey had an International Design and Deliverability Competition for prospective ideas on the new layout of the terminal that coincide with a complex urban environment. Five designs have been unveiled for the West Side terminal with layouts including a pedestrian plaza and an underground terminal.
