Day care worker arrested after baby dies

A Maryland day care worker has been charged in the death of an infant.

Leah Walden, of Baltimore, was arrested and charged with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, first- and second-degree child abuse and reckless endangerment.

Cops say Walden, 23, assaulted 8-month-old Reese Bowman during naptime for reasons that have not been revealed.

Video evidence from inside the southeast Baltimore day care facility was handed over to the Baltimore Police Department by proprietors.

Police said it appears that the baby was awake at the time of the assault.

Investigators reportedly reviewed several videos, including one that they said showed Walden covering the baby with blankets, snatching the child out of the crib and slapping the baby, WBAL reported.

Authorities responded to a 911 call Tuesday afternoon, when medics performed CPR before transporting Reese to a nearby children's hospital.

Despite the desperate rescue efforts, the baby was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

At a press conference, Baltimore police Chief Stanley Brandford said the video was disturbing and said Reese had been “tortured."

In a statement, the Bowman Family asked for privacy.
