DA: Queens man stole John Legend's Louis Vuitton bag, Cartier cuff links at JFK

A jury in Queens on Tuesday convicted an unlicensed cab driver of swiping singer John Legend's Louis Vuitton bag containing $25,000 Cartier cuff links from a luggage cart at John F. Kennedy Airport in 2017.

Agustin Hilario, 64, of Queens, was convicted of criminal possession of stolen property, Queens County District Attorney Richard Brown said in a news release.

Legend, a Grammy and Oscar winner, had just returned to New York from France on March 23, 2017, and was leaving Terminal 4 when his unattended luggage cart vanished.

Security camera video showed that Hilario pushed the cart away from the area, grabbed the black leather Louis Vuitton bag, and then drove away from the airport, according to the DA's case, as prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Michelle Witten and Jason Trager.

A Port Authority police officer recognized Hilario from the video because of prior run-ins with authorities at the airport. Hilario was known to give unauthorized cab rides, according to court documents.

Model Chrissy Teigen, Legend's wife, gave him the diamond and green stone cuff links shaped like panther heads as a gift, Legend testified in court.

After police arrested Hilario, they recovered the Louis Vuitton bag, the cuff links, and other valuables and returned them to Legend.
