NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - New York City Councilman Bill Perkins was hospitalized Thursday after police responded to his home on a report he was acting erratically.
FOX 5 News has learned that Perkins, 68, was shouting and throwing things inside his Harlem home at about 9:30 p.m.
Perkins, who was combative and irrational at the time, would not let the responding officers into the apartment, according to police sources.
Cops forced their way in after reporting a smell of gas.
Perkins was taken to Metropolitan Hospital for a psychological evaluation, according to sources.
In 2017, the Democrat who represents Central Harlem, Morningside Heights, Upper West Side and East Harlem, was re-elected to the NYC Council in a Special Election.
