Cops: NY man who pretended to be taxi driver assaulted woman
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. (AP) — Police say they have arrested a New York man who lured a woman into his car by pretending to be a taxi driver and then sexually assaulted her at gunpoint.
Suffolk County Police say Saturday Adil Raja is in custody. It wasn't immediately clear if he had an attorney. He is to be arraigned Sunday.
Police say a 22-year-old woman walking in Patchogue around 4 a.m. Saturday got into the Central Islip man's green Lincoln after he offered her a ride.
They say Raja then ignored her directions, pointed a BB gun at her and took her to another location where he assaulted her in the back seat.
They say the woman called 911 after the assault. A nearby officer noticed Raja's car and pulled him over.
