Cops: Homeless man attacks Chinese tourist outside NYC hotel

NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a homeless man has been arrested for striking a Chinese tourist in the face with a piece of wood outside a New York City hotel.

They say John Addis was arrested immediately after the 7:30 a.m. attack Saturday in front of the Grand Hyatt in midtown Manhattan.

Investigators say the 51-year-old victim's nose was broken in the attack. He was taken by ambulance to Bellevue Hospital.

They described the attack as unprovoked and said the 40-year-old Addis used a two-by-four piece of wood in the assault.

Addis has been charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon. His contact information wasn't immediately available.

The Grand Hyatt is next to Grand Central Terminal, a busy commuter hub that is also one of the city's most popular tourist attractions.
