Cops: 5 children detained in Clifton bomb plot

Police in Clifton, New Jersey say they have questioned five children for an alleged plot to bomb Clifton High School.

A group of children at Elementary School #11 are accused of planning to set off an explosive device at the town's high school.  The students were all 10 and 11-year-olds in the fifth grade.

The plan was uncovered about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.  It was supposedly to be carried out in the afternoon during a field trip to the town's high school.  A teacher at the elementary school uncovered written plans for the attack and alerted police.  School officials canceled the trip to the high school.

Police reportedly found a device but there were no explosives inside.

The five students have been suspended from school as an investigation continues.  According to police, the children intended to cause harm and it was not a prank.

They were released to their parents. No criminal charges have been filed.
