Cleanthony Early remains hospitalized after shooting
NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - NY Knicks forward Cleanthony Early, 24, is hospitalized after being shot in the leg early Wednesday morning.
Early was shot and robbed after leaving CityScapes strip club in Maspeth, Queens at about 4 a.m., according to police.
Early was in an Uber cab when the vehicle was surrounded by three other vehicles with as many as six people who were wearing ski masks. Early was robbed of a gold necklace before being shot, said police.
The Bronx native was struck once in the right knee in the area of Maurice Ave. and Tyler Ave. He was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition.
The motive for the shooting remains unclear.
The Knicks released a statement about the shooting:
"We are aware of what occurred with Cleanthony Early this morning and are relieved that he is not in a life-threatening situation. We will not comment any further until we receive more information."
The Knicks played the Pistons Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. He played 29 seconds as New York beat Detroit, 108-96.
Early grew up in Middletown, New York. This is his second season with the Knicks.
