Carowinds will operate on a normal schedule Friday, June 10 (10 a.m. – 10 p.m). Due to the partial power outage Thursday night, the following rides and attractions will be closed Friday: Barracuda Blasters, Sand Dune Lagoon, Southern Sidewinder and Whitewater Falls.

Riders were stuck on multiple rides at Carowinds Thursday evening after sporadic power outages.

Duke Energy officials said a transformer caught fire creating the outage.

All rides are expected to be in full operation by Saturday.

Visitors at the park told FOX 46 Charlotte a ride, called the WindSeeker, stopped working around 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. The ride is about 300 feet tall and people got stuck two-thirds of the way up for more than two hours.

Charlotte Fire and Medic said they were on standby while maintenance workers lowered rides manually.

No injuries were reported.

Carowinds released this statement on Thursday to FOX 46 Charlotte:

"Around 8 p.m. this evening, there was a power failure at Carowinds. As a result, there was a partial power outage in the park. Several rides were stopped and safely evacuated. We are currently lowering WindSeeker to the ground. As always, the safety of our guests and associates is our highest priority."

Carowinds officials confirmed the ride, WindSeeker, was lowered to the ground just before 11 p.m. Thursday.
