Brooklyn homeowners plaster 'NO PARKING' signs, cameras on front yard
BROOKLYN - Parking in Sheepshead Bay has become a battleground, and homeowners are taking matters into their own hands—literally—by posting a barrage of signs and surveillance cameras to keep cars away.
This Brooklyn neighborhood is known for tight spaces and long waits.

The house, which from afar looks like it could be competing in a small-town Christmas decoration contest, is covered in "no parking" signs.
In fact, FOX 5 NY counted at least 51 cameras and dozens of signs spanning from the back of the house to the front—adding another layer of deterrence to the already over-the-top parking restrictions nearby.
What they're saying:
FOX 5 NY's Richard Giacovis spoke with residents, who had mixed reactions about the "no parking" campaign.
"I definitely think it's justified. It's hard to get parking, and they got to do what they got to do," one resident said with a chuckle.
For many residents, parking is a nightmare. "Sometimes you wait like 30 minutes to find parking around the same. You spend about 20 minutes circling around," one resident explained. Another added, "Everyone who lives on this block has the same complaint."

Neighbors say the homeowners at the East 15th Street residence are generally quiet, low-key people who keep to themselves. But when it comes to parking, they clearly send a very loud message.
Some signs read "No parking anytime," others warn of "24 hour surveillance," and one even: "Emergency doctors active MD driveway 24/7, don’t block!" There’s even a cheeky "Smile, You’re On Camera" sign added to the mix.
Why you should care:
The home has become a landmark of sorts, attracting curious passersby who stop to take pictures in front of the extensive sign collection.

The problem is so widespread that the homeowners’ drastic solution is almost seen as a necessary evil. While the city’s parking department has yet to respond to FOX 5 NY’s inquiry about whether residents are allowed to install their own signs, it seems the community is not waiting for official approval.
If you find yourself anywhere near this home, here's some advice: Keep it moving. These homeowners have made it clear—they’re not playing around when it comes to parking.
