Some bricks broke free from a building facade on the Upper East Side and rained down onto First Avenue Monday night. No one was hurt.

The bricks fell from 340 East 64th Street, the FDNY said. Authorities shut down First Avenue between 59th Street and 64th Street.  Emergency crews were still on the scene on Tuesday morning.

A witness said the facade collapse was like a "hail storm" and said that when the bricks struck the sidewalk they broke into hundreds of pieces.

The FDNY said that the Department of Buildings was called to the scene.
