Boy Scout donates musical instruments to schools
NEW YORK (FOX5NY.COM) - P.S. 361 got a special delivery from a very special young man. Karl Kilb, 15, is giving students the gift of music. Karl is a sophomore at the prestigious LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts and a gifted musician.
For his eagle scout project this year, Karl decided to donate instruments to the Third Street Music School In The East Village and to public schools across New York City so that other kids could learn to fall in love with music.
He started out with a small goal: about 10 to 15 instruments. But after putting the word and selling chocolates at churches to raise money, he came up with 64 instruments—everything from saxophones to violins to an electric guitar.
Valerie Lewis is the executive director at the Third Street School, a nonprofit music school for kids and adults. She called Karl inspiring and his gift priceless. She said she hopes he becomes president of the United States one day.
