Body of missing Long Island boater found

YAPHANK, N.Y. (AP) -- The body of a boater who went missing after his vessel was found abandoned in the waters off Long Island has been recovered.

Suffolk County police say the body of Andrew Weis, 48, of Gilgo Beach, was found in Great South Bay off Copiague Harbor about 10:20 a.m. Monday.

Police say Weis was aboard his 13-foot boat in the Great South Bay and was heading to Lindenhurst Saturday night when he disappeared.

His damaged boat was found Sunday morning. Police say they believe Weis was involved in a boating accident.
