Bobby Valentine candidate for ambassador to Japan: report

Former NY Mets and Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine is reportedly on the short list of President-elect Donald J. Trump 's picks for U.S. Ambassador to Japan.

WEEI Sports Radio Network reports that Valentine has been in preliminary discussions with President-elect Trump’s transition team regarding the position. 

According to the station, Valentine remains popular in Japan after having managed the Chiba Lotte Marines for seven seasons including a championship in 2005.

Valentine, 66, works as the athletic director at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

On Wednesday, Trump named former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Linda McMahon as administrator of the Small Business Administration.
