The FDNY shut down a stretch of 12th Avenue in Manhattan for several hours on Tuesday after a crane accident sent a large beam down near the Javits Center.

Photos from the scene show crews moving beams off a sidewalk shed.  No injuries were reported but the road closure had a major impact on traffic.

The beams came down just before 10 a.m. and "were leaning precariously on a sidewalk shed," according to the FDNY.

Closures on 12th Avenue remained in place along 12th Avenue from West 34th Street to West 42nd Street until about 6:45 p.m.

An underground area near the Lincoln Tunnel was evacuated as a precaution and New York Waterways ferries, which dock across the street from the accident site suspended service for a time.
