Authorities: Elderly woman killed in fast-moving house fire

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say an elderly woman has died after a fast-moving fire roared through a northwestern New Jersey home.

Hunterdon County prosecutors say firefighters responded to the Readington Township home around 6:05 a.m. Saturday. The intense flames and smoke initially prevented emergency responders from entering the residence, but they were able to enter the home a short time later and discovered the woman's body.

The woman's name has not been released and it's not clear if she lived in the Higginsville Road home. It's also not clear if anyone else was in the home when the fire broke out.

A firefighter was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
