NEW YORK (FOX 5 NY) - The NYPD has arrested one suspect in the deadly shooting inside a subway station in Midtown Manhattan. Police say Vincent Arcona is being questioned by detectives. It is not clear if he is believed to be the gunman. Cops had said they were looking for up to three suspects. Charges against him are pending.
A gunman shot three men, killing one, inside the station entrance early Monday. A 43-year-old man was shot once in the neck and was pronounced dead at the bottom of the stairs in the station at 35th St. and 8th Ave., the Associated Press reported.
The second victim, a 45-year-old man, was shot twice in the neck and torso and taken to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. The third victim, a 48-year-old man, was shot in the right thigh and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police identified the man who died as Angel Quinones. The man in critical condition is identified as William Lamboy and the other the man as Eddy Torres. An official told the Associated Press that all three victims had long records of mostly drug-related arrests.
Two men who attend a nearby methadone program at the West Midtown Medical Group said they knew two of the victims, one who was killed and one who was injured, reported the Associated Press. They said both victims came to the clinic for years.
The shooting occurred at about 6:15 a.m.
A dispute between the men that began inside a nearby McDonald's spilled into the station, according to police.
Cops had to block off the entrance to the station where the A, C and E lines stop.
A search was underway for the gunman who fled northbound on 8th Ave. in a silver car.
Surveillance video also showed a man running away on the street, but it is not clear if that is the gunman.
