Armed mugger attacks, slashes man on subway
NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a knife-wielding man slashed and wounded a rider on a subway train after first robbing another rider.
The chaos began around 6 a.m. as a C train was leaving the station in Harlem, when the man pulled a knife on a 28-year-old. The thief stole a backpack, and then moved on to a 61-year-old man, who refused to give up his belongings. The man had a metal rod and attacked the robber. The two fought, and the robber slashed the 61-year-old before running to another train car.
Police were waiting for the suspect on the platform and arrested him when the train arrived.
No one else was injured. The 61-year-old was taken to a hospital with minor wounds.
