American Dance Platform

If you're looking to infuse a little culture into your life look no further than the American Dance Platform at the Joyce Theater. The festival features contemporary dance companies from around the country. I caught the acclaimed Hubbard St. Dance Chicago during a rehearsal.

By the way, no music, no problem. This one-of-a-kind performance is the work of master choreographer William Forsyth and it has no musical score.

The group's artistic director says he wants everyone who attends the festival to be moved by what they see on the stage.

Toni Pierce Sands and Uri Sands are bringing the Midwest flavor of their troupe Tu Dance to the Big Apple. Its members are performing the piece "Hakari," which is Japanese for light.

This festival was all made possible by a grant from the Harkness Foundation. The new annual event is the only one of its kind and long overdue.
