3-year-old dies in White Plains house fire

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) — A 3-year-old girl has died in a fire in White Plains.

The Journal News reports (http://lohud.us/1O8VS9i ) that the girl and her step-grandfather were pulled from a burning house Saturday morning.

The two were taken to White Plains Hospital.

White Plains Public Safety Commissioner David Chong says the girl later died and the man is in critical condition. Their names were not immediately released.

Chong called the child's death "a terrible tragedy."

The fire was reported at 11 a.m. and was under control a half-hour later.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
