2 rescued after jumping off boat

KISMET, N.Y. (AP) — Police have rescued two distressed swimmers who jumped off a boat on Long Island. Suffolk County police say it happened around 7 p.m. Sunday when a group anchored its boat in the Great South Bay. The boat was anchored about a quarter-mile from the Fire Island Lighthouse when 38-year-old Robyn Ciano, her 13-year-old daughter Jade-Ashely Steler and 38-year-old Brian McDaniels jumped in the water for a swim.

Police say the trio was quickly separated from the boat. Another person aboard called 911.

Officers pulled Ciano and McDaniels from the water. Steler, they say, had made it back to the boat.

Police say the three were treated at the scene by firefighters but refused further medical attention.
