2 die when SUV crashes into poles, building on Long Island
WEST BABYLON, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a driver and his passenger were killed when their sport utility vehicle hit two poles and a building on Long Island.
The crash happened at 1:30 a.m. Saturday in West Babylon.
Suffolk County police say 23-year-old Jose Edgardo Diaz was driving a Ford Explorer southbound on Little East Neck Road when he lost control and the vehicle struck two poles and then hit a building.
Diaz and his passenger, 53-year-old Brian Zatkowski, were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
Newsday reports (http://nwsdy.li/2poApWO ) that the impact of the crash shattered windows at a chiropractor's office in the building that was struck.
Building owner A.J. Sweeney said parts of the SUV ended up inside the building.
