2 die after boat capsizes in NY's Jamaica Bay

NEW YORK (AP) — Two men are dead after their boat capsized during a driving rain in Jamaica Bay.

Three other men survived the boating accident Friday near Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn.

Police say the fishing boat flipped just before 8 p.m.

The NYPD, the Coast Guard and Fire Department responded to the accident.

Two of the men were given CPR on the shore and taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

They were identified as 42-year-old Ricardo Mejia and 50-year-old Joel Ortiz, both of Brooklyn.

A third man was rescued and treated for minor injuries. The other two men were able to scramble ashore.

It was raining steadily at the time of the accident.

The National Weather Service says a gale warning was in effect and visibility was poor.
