11 year-old discovers bodies of parents from apparent murder-suicide
BERGENFIELD, N.J. (AP) — Prosecutors say the deaths of two people found inside a New Jersey home appear to be a murder-suicide.
But it's not clear what sparked the incident.
Police responded to the Bergenfield home around 10:20 a.m. Saturday after an 11-year-old boy reported that his parents were not breathing.
Bergen County prosecutors say a 36-year-old woman was found in an upstairs bedroom and a 44-year-old man was found in the basement. They say the man appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, but declined comment on the woman's death.
Their names were not released.
Acting county Prosecutor Gurbir Grewal said the deaths were being investigated as a "domestic violence-based murder-suicide."
The 11-year-old boy was placed in the custody of child welfare officials.
