1 killed, 1 wounded in police shooting in Newark

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say one man has been killed and another wounded in a police shooting in Newark.  The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says Newark police responded to a report of shots fired around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The prosecutor's office says in a statement that "the encounter resulted in two males being shot." One man was killed and the other was taken to a hospital, where he's listed in critical but stable condition. Authorities have not released their names.

No other information was immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
