From Tragedy to Hope: An NYPD Widow’s Journey with Tunnel to Towers

“When I hold my baby in my arms, I say—he’s here.” In December 2014, just three months after getting married, Pei Xia Chen’s life was shattered when her husband, NYPD Det. Wenjian Liu, and his partner Det. Raphael Ramos were killed in the line of duty. In her darkest hour, the Tunnel to Towers Foundation stepped in to relieve her financial burden by paying off her mortgage and renovating her home—a gesture that helped launch the foundation’s Fallen First Responder Home Program. Years later, Pei Xia welcomed their "miracle baby," Angelina, and was inspired by Tunnel to Towers to pay that kindness forward by founding the Detective Wenjian Liu Foundation.
