Born into one of New York's most gender-segregated societies, Yisrael Stein was one of 13 kids in a Hasidic Jewish family. Today she goes by Abby. Five years ago she left the Williamsburg sect. Her road is long and complicated, but her attitude is optimistic and inspiring. Abby first remembers associating as female at 4. As she grew up, Abby continued struggling with her identity. But her community had no room for gender dysphoria.

The annual Pride March in New York is supposed to be a time for LGBTQ community members to come together. But this weekend, we may see some division. Protests are planned at gay pride marches throughout the country this weekend, including New York, as a way to highlight issues facing minorities within the LGBTQ community and promote acceptance of people from all backgrounds.

The Manhattan District Attorney's Office is reaching out to some of the most vulnerable victims in the city. The office is allocating $12 million to services for children, domestic abuse survivors, and rape victims. The funding will go to 10 organizations that help marginalized communities, such as people of color, the LGBTQ community, people with disabilities, and non-English speakers and immigrants. The work they do is in the trenches and far-reaching.

The New York LGBT Network is speaking out against President Donald Trump's decision to end federal protection for transgender students who under the Obama administration were allowed to use bathrooms of their chosen gender. Now it will be up to states and schools to decide. CEO David Kilmnick said they are standing up for children. He said that refusing to protect youth is "deplorable and dangerous."
