Saint Peter's 78-game losing streak is over
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) - Saint Peter's 78-game losing streak is finally over.
Willie Krajnik pitched a three-hitter Sunday to lead the Peacocks in a 7-1 victory over Iona in the first game of a doubleheader. Iona won the second game 19-2.
Saint Peter's previous win was over Rider on May 20, 2016. The Peacocks lost their final game that season, went 0-38 last year and were 0-39 before beating the Gaels.
Krajnik struck out seven and walked one in the seven-inning complete game, and Cole Roberts, Anthony Assante and Chris Marquart drove in two runs apiece.
The Jersey City, New Jersey, school was outscored an average of 12-3 over the 78 games and allowed 25 or more runs six times. The Peacocks were shut out 14 times.
