Woman dies in hay ride accident

BARRINGTON, N.Y. (AP) — The Yates County Sheriff's Office says a woman has died of injuries caused by a hay ride accident that injured seven other people.  The sheriff's office says 52-year-old Anna Marie Martin of Penn Yan died Wednesday at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, where she had been airlifted after Sunday's accident.

A 1966 John Deere farm tractor was pulling a hay wagon carrying 10 people on a paved road in the town of Barrington near Keuka Lake when it jack-knifed on a steep hill. The wagon slid into a ditch and broke apart.

Martin and the tractor's driver, 25-year-old Elam Martin, were flown to Strong. Others were treated for minor injuries. Elam Martin has since been released.

Yates County Sheriff Ron Spike says the investigation is continuing.
