Verizon Wireless customers experience texting outage

Verizon Wireless customers across the country experienced a disruption of the cell provider's texting service Tuesday morning.

In response to customers' questions regarding the downed service via social media, @VZWSupport confirmed the outage.

First reports of texting problems were around 5 a.m. At about 9 a.m., Verizon announced the issue had been resolved.

In a statement to FOX5NY.com, Verizon wrote:

“We experienced an issue impacting texting services for some customers this morning. Our engineers were able to identify and resolve the issue quickly. Service is now fully restored.”

Despite the announcement, some customers continued to report a disruption.

Earlier in the day, in a response for comment, a representative told FOX5NY.com that the company was working diligently to resolve the issue.

"Yes, this is a known issue, and we want you to know that we are working diligently on restoring service in your area, as well as other states. We appreciate your time while we all work together. Since we do not have an estimated time of resolution, please continue to power off/on your phone every couple hours. *ARG"

Based on reports by DownDetector.com, the service disruption extended beyond the East Coast.

It was not clear what caused the outage.
