Vandals cut 2 power poles
CLARENCE, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities in western New York say they're looking for the person or persons who cut into two utility poles in a Buffalo suburb, knocking out power to hundreds of homes and businesses.
The Erie County Sheriff's Office says the poles were damaged around 9:30 p.m. Monday in the area of Wehrle and Transit roads in the town of Clarence. Deputies say whoever cut into the poles used either a chain saw or a type of power saw. NYSEG says after the poles were cut, the wind caused them to fall down.
About 1,000 customers lost power for about an hour, including numerous businesses along a busy commercial stretch along Transit Road near the Thruway.
