Toys R Us to open big store at Meadowlands

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Officials say Toys R Us is planning to open a three-story, 55,000-square-foot store in New Jersey as part of the American Dream project under construction in the Meadowlands. But the store in East Rutherford will not replace the company's Manhattan flagship location, which is scheduled to close at the end of the year.

Spokeswoman Kathleen Waugh says the Wayne-based company will continue to look for a new site in Manhattan, but the American Dream store is intended to "expand our brand presence in New Jersey." The store in northern New Jersey is expected to open in the fall of 2017.

Waugh says the American Dream development does not include plans for a separate FAO Schwarz store, as was previously reported. Toys R Us owns the FAO Schwarz toy brand.
