Teen rescued after fall into open sewer main

BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (AP) - A teen boy was rescued after a falling into an open sewer main and being dragged along by the sewage for about half a mile.

The Albany Times Union reported the 14-year-old had been out with two friends late Saturday afternoon in Ballston Spa, New York, south of Saratoga Springs. The boys came across the open main, which authorities said was under construction but still should have been covered.

After falling into the sewer line, the boy was rescued when authorities following the path of the main heard him yelling and pulled off a manhole cover in an industrial park.

The teen was taken to the hospital, and authorities said he suffered only minor injuries.
