Snowmobiler dead after crashing into rocks on frozen NY lake

MAYFIELD, N.Y. (AP) --- A 24-year-old man is dead after he lost control of his snowmobile in upstate New York and crashed it into rocks.

The Albany Times Union reports (http://bit.ly/2hcUw1z ) that the accident happened about 9 p.m. Friday on Great Sacandaga Lake in the Adirondacks.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Department says Henry Ross III was snowmobiling on the frozen lake when he veered into rocks.

Authorities say the impact sent the snowmobiler hurtling into another large pile of rocks about 75 feet away.

Ross was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff Richard Giardino said other snowmobilers were performing CPR on Ross when authorities arrived.
