Several injured in explosion and fire at teen camp

Nine people were hurt, three critically, in an explosion and subsequent fire at a camp for Hasidic teen boys in Monroe, New York.

The boys had returned to their bungalow at the Quaker Hill Cottages just after midnight Friday when they smelled gas. One of the teens opened a window when the explosion occurred, according to Orange County officials.

The injured were flown to Westchester Medical Center.  Many camp attendees were reportedly from Brooklyn.

Eight fire departments responded to the scene.  The flames were under control in two hours, said officials.

An investigation into the incident was underway.
